It all started with a little rubber frog I found on a walk around Walden pond. The poor thing was sadly bobbing around the water edge, left behind and deserted, seemingly forgotten by all who passed by. Naturally, I had to save him; after all, even a small toy deserves a chance at a better life. Back home, he was enthusiastically adopted by one of my teenagers, who instantly took a liking to this quirky little creature. The little frog found a home on our coffee table, becoming an unexpected centerpiece of conversation and laughter. We decided he needed a lily pad to sit on.
I started looking for lily pad coasters, but none of the ones you can buy or make yourself were up to my taste, so I made up my own pattern for quilted cotton coasters in lily pad shape. I wanted them to not only reflect the beauty of a tranquil pond but also add a touch of whimsy to our living space. After hours of considering different materials and crafts, I settled on a quilted design using a mottled green fabric with subtle hints of yellow to portray the sun-soaked pads and with their textured veins. When we put the lily pads on our coffee table and placed the little rubber frog onto one of them, it instantly transformed the tabletop into a serene pond, evoking a sense of calm and relaxation for anyone who walked into the room. The tactile nature of the quilted coasters invited guests to touch and admire them, while the playful frogs (for in the meantime our little rubber frog got two cute ceramic companions) added a delightful charm that sparked conversations. All that was missing was some water lilies to round up the picture. And again, I withdrew into my craft room to cook up a pattern, excited to create corresponding water lilies that would breathe even more life into my cozy little oasis.
